Hobbies help us keep busy when we have time on our hands. They are something that we like to do and can spend hours pursuing. Some people like hobbies that are sports related and then there are some who prefer hobbies that involve intellectual skills. Some prefer to solve puzzles and some are like to enhance their knowledge.
But one hobby that can be extremely challenging is creating ship models. You can buy different ship models so that you have a different one to build every time. But a good suggestion would be to try your hand at one ship model before you get excited and buy more. This will allow you to judge your skills at the craft so that you know if you are capable of doing it and whether you enjoy it or not.
These kind of hobbies can be extremely useful when you have periods of less work. Everyone goes through these periods of crisis in life when we have too many things to do and then there are these times when come what may it seems as if nothing is moving. In these free times, making miniature boats can be a very time consuming and yet intriguing task to complete.
The one thing that will definitely pull you towards this hobby is the sight of a finished ship model. The more intricate the model, the more it will attract you to start something of your own. For example, if the model is a World War II intricate vessel, you will probably fall in love with the intricacies of the piece at first sight.
The complexity of the model may daunt you at first and you may feel that it is an impossible task to complete but remember that the hobby is challenging and time consuming but not impossible.
As you see more models, you will feel like buying all of them and then you will not be able to decide which one to start with. Because of this you may end up picking the first one which may a bit difficult to do as the first. After you start, you may feel that you will never be able to complete it and that it just takes up too much time. You may on the other hand become obsessed with it and never want to leave it.
The idea therefore is to get the one that does not seem to easy or difficult. And that is a beginner’s model. Yes, it exists and the makers of the models have specifically pointed that out so that you do not spend hours trying to figure out the best model for yourself as the first one to try.

All of us have heard of scrapbook but not all of us have really ventured into creating one. One sometimes really wonders whether creating a scrapbook is something we should attempt. These books filled with pictures, quotes and memories were definitely in vogue when we were kids and most of our parents had one wherein they stored memorable moments of us growing up. With the digital cameras taking over, our parents definitely had many more photo albums than we do.
A scrapbook is a book that aids in collecting scraps of memory to keep safe till the time you decide to take a walk down memory lane and revisit school or college days once you are too old to have vivid memories. It is something like a ‘pensieve’ in which Dumbledore saves his memories except the one that you have will have will need to be created without the aid of magic.
Magic or no magic, you can conjure up a delightful scrapbook by a little bit of creativity. It can recount events of certain specific important days, have pictures of your first crush, include dried up petals of the first rose you ever got and be personalized with hand written comments from friends and dear ones.
Each scrapbook is personal and speaks a million words about the individual. Many secrets are hidden in the folds of the book and may be revisited years later. For many it is a fantastic way of capturing memories that you might forget later to share with your children and your loved ones once you are ready. Scrapbooks can form a lovely intimate gift to give someone you love, be it your kids or spouse.
Some people have the urge to create their own scrapbooks but feel that they are not creative enough to do justice to the concept. For such people many companies have made life easier by providing solution and easy do-it-yourself guides. There are many pre-packaged scrapbooks available that have various sections to kick-start the creative process. These are fairly inexpensive and can be purchased even if you are not sure whether you shall see light at the end of the tunnel. If you are crazed about the idea of a scrapbook and do not have the time to do it yourself, then hiring someone to do the job can also be considered. Even though the professional might do justice to the individuality that you want to lend to the book, creating a scrapbook on your own has its own charm.

Children can really drive you crazy during summer vacations and keeping them busy is an arduous job especially if you do not have any activity in mind that will keep them from bothering you with childish questions and demands.
Children love to paint, and creating painted flower pots will bring out the artist in them and keep them busy for a couple of hours as well. The added benefit of this project is that you can then spend a sunny afternoon planting a small flower garden in the painted flower pots once you’ve finished making them.
There are many ceramic activity stores designed especially for pottery painting, but these places can prove to be expensive if you have more than one child. All you need is some old newspapers to cover the table or floor on which your children will be painting, some old shirts for the children to wear to protect their clothes, a few flower pots and paint. Most supplies needed for pottery painting can be found in any hardware store or garden center.
Once your children are ready to paint, encourage them to let their imaginations run wild. Traditionally, painted flower pots are usually decorated with pictures of flowers. Since you’re designing your own custom flower pots, try an abstract scene or a picture of an elephant for a change. You could also find stencils for your children to use as a guide for their artistic vision. They can also paint their names or draw any shape that comes to their mind. The goal of the project is to immerse your children in a creative art project and let their imagination run wild to bring out talent, if any, in them.
Once finished, the painted flower pots are susceptible to fading unless they are fired and finished. There is a way to do this yourself, but it is better to find a professional to finish them for you. It usually only takes a couple of days to seal and coat the pieces and after that they are ready for planting. The thing to remember is that once the painted flowerpots are fired and sealed, the paint will appear darker and richer than when originally painted. So keep that in mind while choosing the colors for your pot.
